Sri Lanka has long been referred as a Paradise island on Earth in the past. Sri Lanka made history by electing the first woman prime minister in the world and proved freedom of democracy is equal to men and women by electing the first woman prime minister of the world Mrs.Sirimavo Bandaranaike, and paying way to others countries to follow.
Its unimaginable to think a country like Sri Lanka can get into a civil conflict, with an internal war which lasted for almost 30 years with the bloodiest and the most brutal human rights violations the world has ever witnessed from both sides during the internal war in Sri Lanka.
Prevailing tensions between the Sinhalese majority and Tamil separatists erupted into war in July 1983. Fighting between the government and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) continued for over a quarter century. The government finally defeated the LTTE in May 2009. Sri Lanka after its 26-year civil war with separatist Tamil people realize the wonderful reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction program that are being carrying out in Sri Lanka even after more than 10 years the war ended is still not fully completed.
The past tragedy in SriLanka is not the brutality of the evil people, but rather the silence of the good people, which escalated the war in Sri Lanka for almost 30 years. Today we find most of the  Sri Lankans living in Sri Lanka are horrified and frightened to speak out any wrongdoing by the government, politicians or anyone. Even though the government of Sri Lanka have given full media freedom to the citizens of Sri Lanka they are still reluctant to speak out due to the past. If we have to strength democracy justice and human rights in Sri Lanka we need to help the citizens of Sri Lanka to speak out without fear from any one and correct any mistakes made by anyone in irrespectively their government, politicians or anyone.
Democratic leaders are to serve by the satisfaction of the people. Due to our fear and distancing from politics we gave them our total power to command us. "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
